Four Indian Army soldiers have been killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua, according to defence officials.

In addition to the four personnel who have been killed, four more soldiers have been injured, ANI quoted officials as saying.

The casualties occurred as terrorists on Monday attacked an Army convoy in Machedi area of J&K’s Kathua district. The firefight in the area is still ongoing.

The Kashmir Tigers, an outfit understood to be a front of Jaish-e-Mohammed, has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to CNN-News 18.

The attack occurred at around 3:30 pm near Badnota village in Lohai Malhar, around 150 kms from Kathua town, according to Times Now.

The report further said that terrorists hurled a grenade at the Army convoy on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road and then opened fire. They fled from the spot and reinforcements were rushed to area to find and neutralise the terrorists.

This is the fifth terrorist attack in J&K in the past one month. Last month, the four attacks took place in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda. Ten people were killed in the attacks, including nine Hindu pilgrims in Reasi in an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. More than 40 people were also injured in this attack.
