SRINAGAR: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, today reviewed the progress of the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojna (PMSGMBY) and emphasised the target of installing rooftop solar plants in 6,370 households in the district by March 2025.
The meeting was attended by senior engineers and officers of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) who provided an update on the ongoing installations. As of now, over 1,400 consumers in the district have applied for rooftop solar units under the scheme.
The DC stressed the importance of increasing awareness about the benefits of solar energy and highlighted that the scheme offers a 60% subsidy, which significantly lowers dependency on conventional electricity sources. He instructed KPDCL officials to initiate awareness campaigns at the ward and panchayat levels and create awareness materials in local languages.
Dr. Bilal also emphasised the need for targeted outreach to households with power consumption of up to 3 KW. He urged KPDCL and PDD officials to collaborate with J&K Bank to make loans accessible for consumers’ contributions, thus making solar rooftop systems more affordable.
The DC directed officials to organize awareness camps and submit a comprehensive plan for reaching out to potential consumers, aiming to meet the ambitious target.
