At least seven servitors were injured when Lord Balabhadra’s idol slipped and fell on them during a ceremony after the Rath Yatra in Odisha’s Puri on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the three idols were being taken from the chariots to the Adapa Mandap of the Gundicha temple on Tuesday evening.

After the completion of other rituals, the ‘Pahandi’ of the idols began, where the three idols were being taken to the Adapa Mandap by the servitors by gently swinging the idols.

While taking Lord Balabhadra’s idol from his chariot, Taladhwaja, the idol slipped on the makeshift ramp of the chariot, Charamala, and fell on the servitors.

The rescue personnel along with other servitors rushed to the spot and picked up the idol.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed concern over the incident and has directed Odisha Law Minister Parthiraj Harichandan to visit Puri immediately and take stock of the situation. He also wished the speedy recovery of the injured servitors.

Notably, one person died, and several others were injured due to overcrowding during the Rath Yatra, which was held over a period of two days, on Sunday and Monday respectively.
