Peaceful Protest at ASCOMS Jammu Against Reservation Policy in NEET PG
JK News Today
Jammu, December 14, 2024: A peaceful protest was organized today at ASCOMS Jammu by MBBS Students and concerned medical professionals to highlight grievances against the recent changes in the reservation policy for postgraduate medical seats in Jammu & Kashmir.
Key points of contention include:
- Reversal of SRO 49 (2018): Aspirants demand reinstatement of the 75% Open Merit (OM) and 25% reservation policy, ensuring merit remains the deciding factor in specialty courses.
- Abolition of Rule 17: This unique provision in J&K unfairly allows reserved category students to occupy two seats, drastically reducing OM opportunities.
- Implementation of a Bond System: A 3-to-5-year service bond is suggested to address regional healthcare gaps without compromising merit.
The protest emphasized the detrimental impact of reducing OM quota to 26.6% and how such policies undermine competency in specialized medical fields. Protesters called for immediate intervention to restore fairness and ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.
