The meeting which will be attended among others by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha , NSA Ajit Doval and Army chief Gen. Upendra Dwivedi , will discuss the latest security situation and the persistent demand by the Omar Abdullah –led elected government for the restoration of the statehood to J&K, which was downgraded to a Union Territory in 2019 , is expected to discuss and design a direction how to strike a balance between the two, as there are fears that the statehood would bring back old fault lines in the sensitive border territory . The recent terror incidents coupled with a narrative that infuses a new sense of unrest vis-à-vis Centre will be deliberated upon in a detailed fashion . The needs for preserving the security situation and elimination of all the prevailing threats to security from both win and outside , and to honour the mandate that the Omar Abdullah government has got in the Assembly elections is a delicate task that the meeting will undertake.

At the same time , Centre also is aware that it is not only the question of honouring the mandate that the National Conference received during the elections , but also it has to find an answer why it is not according the statehood status to J&K when it had promised to do so at an appropriate time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have made this promise in public and within the Parliament .

Sources told JK News Today that the meeting will deliberate on all these issues against the backdrop of the work that the elected government has done or not done in first two months of its five-year-innings .The Centre, the sources said, is not amused by the narratives that have dominated the landscape after the Omar government took over . Certain gaps that existed before the elections in the administration and the people remain unfilled . The government has taken the narratives to the direction that has not helped in pushing forward the case of peace and progress.

Sources confirmed that a new direction will be spelled out with regard to Jammu and Kashmir at the end of the meeting on Thursday next. It will be a balanced approach wherein the security agencies will be encouraged to work more aggressively against the terrorism and the elected government to cooperate in the peace-building effort.

This meeting will also be attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo , DGP Nalin Prabhat and senior functionaries of the ministry of home affairs .
