Bhagalpur: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) and Sadar hospital at Bhagalpur have geared up to tackle the threat of Human MetapneumoVirus (HMPV) that causes symptoms similar to a cold. The two hospitals have readied its infrastructures as well as deployed trained medical experts and paramedical staff to face the challenge, in view of health advisory issued by the state’s health secretary, Sanjay Kumar Singh on Tuesday, for precautionary measures, preparedness in healthcare facilities, and public awareness.
Total 40 dedicated beds for the HMPV cases have been readied at the newly built ward at the JLNMCH, besides a special ward with six beds at the Sadar hospital to treat the HMPV patients.
“At JLNMCH, we are ready for any eventuality as we don’t want to take chances in case of rise in HMPV infections.,” said Dr K K Sinha, medical superintendent at JLNMCH, urging people not to panic but remain vigilant and take precautions. He asked people to report to the hospital if they get infected with flu-like symptoms.
Bhagalpur civil surgeon Dr Ashok Prasad said that hospital in-charges and paramedical staffs at primary health centers (PHCs) and other hospitals have been directed to monitor the patients with influenza like illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory pneumonia (SARP) in their respective regions and report to the headquarters.
Sadar Hospital in-charge Dr Raju said that a six-bed ward for HMPV patients has been prepared in view of impending threat.
