Former MLA from Devsar, Ghulam Hassan Parray, Passes Away at 95

Srinagar, Nov 30 : Ghulam Hassan Parray, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Devsar, passed away on Saturday at the age of 95 in his ancestral village of Shampora, Qazigund, in Anantnag district.

Parray, who made history in the 1972 elections by winning as an independent candidate, had been in poor health before his death but passed away peacefully at home.

In the 1972 assembly elections, Parray defeated Congress candidate Manhor Nath Koul by a margin of 1,351 votes, securing 9,406 votes compared to Koul’s 8,055.

This was the only election Parray contested in his political career. The election saw a 66.78% voter turnout from a total of 29,854 registered voters.

Hundreds of people attended his funeral prayers in Shampora on Saturday morning, reflecting the respect he earned during his life.
