SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has urged the government to provide compensation to business owners who have suffered losses due to a spate of recent fire incidents across the Valley.
Rising fire cases have inflicted widespread damage on shops and other business establishments, prompting the KTA to call for immediate government intervention. Over 40 fire incidents have been reported in the first week of the year alone, devastating small businesses and raising concerns about fire safety measures.
Aijaz Shahdhar, President of the KTA, highlighted the challenges faced by small shopkeepers who lack insurance coverage, leaving them vulnerable to financial ruin in the aftermath of such disasters. “While the administration has made efforts to assist households affected by fires, small business owners often find themselves excluded from relief measures. This needs to change,” Shahdhar said.
The KTA has called for the establishment of a dedicated relief fund to compensate small business owners affected by fire incidents. According to the organisation, the winter months have seen a concerning rise in fire incidents, posing a significant threat to the Valley’s already struggling economy.
“We appeal to the government to prioritise the plight of small business owners and ensure they have access to resources necessary for recovery and rebuilding,” Shahdhar added.
The trade body underscored the importance of a comprehensive relief framework that includes businesses of all sizes, emphasising that such measures are crucial to protecting the Valley’s economic fabric from the devastating impact of unforeseen disasters.
