Samsung unveils new BioActive sensor that’s 30% more accurate, a big piece of the Galaxy Watch 7 puzzle | Technology News

As we inch closer to the second Galaxy Unpacked of 2024, Samsung has started to tease some of the products that will be announced at the mega launch event, happening on July 10, in Paris, France. The company has now unveiled a new BioActive sensor, which will be an integral part of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 series.

According to Samsung, “The new sensor will enable advanced predictive and preventative wellness features never before seen on a wearable device—in addition to more accurate health measurements.”

The watches featuring the new BioActive sensor are said to deliver better preventative health experiences, including precise health insights. The new sensor is said to focus on three upgrades: enhanced performance of photodiodes, the addition of different coloured LEDs, and better arrangement of the sensor for more optimal performance.

These upgrades, including the addition of new coloured LEDs, are said to enable the accurate measurement of health metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, and stress levels 30 per cent more accurately compared to its predecessors.

The new sensor will also enable new health-tracking features such as the advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index, which acts as an indicator of metabolic health and biological ageing.

Festive offer

While Samsung hasn’t confirmed, leaks suggest that, at the Unpacked event, the company will introduce at least two new smartwatches—Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, which is said to compete against the likes of the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Both models are expected to feature the new BioActive sensor, and these watches are also expected to be the first set of smartwatches to ship with Galaxy AI.
