Srinagar shivers at -2.1°C, Shopian freezes at -5.5°C

Srinagar, Nov 28: Kashmir continues to witness sub-zero temperatures as centre Srinagar records minimum temperature of -2.1°C, reports said Thursday.

The night-time chill intensified across the region with the southern district of Shopian emerging as the coldest place, recording a bone-chilling low of -5.5°C, news agency NVI reported.

The drop in temperatures come ahead of the 40-day harsh winter period colloquially called ‘Chillai Kalan’ which commences from Dec 21.

During this phase, the region witnesses intense cold, frequent snowfall, and frozen water bodies, including parts of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar.

These cold conditions often disrupt daily life, especially in the higher reaches and hinterlands.
