Two encounters break out in South Kashmir, 1 soldier and 4 militants killed | India News

Two encounters were underway in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday night, with officials saying four militants have been killed and a soldier has lost his life.

As per the Jammu and Kashmir police, the first encounter took place in Modergam village on Saturday afternoon, while in the evening, firing began at Frisal village. The soldier sustained fatal injuries in the first encounter, officials said.

According to officials, contact with militants was established during a cordon and search operation in Frisal, leading to an exchange of fire. Sources said that in both locations, the militants were holed up inside a house. In one of the encounters, security forces had to blast the house to flush them out, sources said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi said, “Four bodies (of militants) have been sighted but we will be able to clarify after the operation is over. Right now there is firing from the inside.”

Drone footage of the encounter site showed four bodies, which are yet to be retrieved, officials said.

According to the IGP, the site of the encounter is not near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway but in the district’s interior areas.

He said the J&K Police and security forces continue to track the movement of militants, and the recent encounter is a significant achievement.
