‘You are becoming younger and…’: Sachin Tendulkar shares a throwback image wishing Sunil Gavaskar on 75th birthday | Off the field News

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Sunil Gavaskar‘s 75th birthday, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar shared a heartfelt message along with a nostalgic image of their younger selves. In his tribute, Sachin expressed his admiration for Gavaskar, whom he considers one of his special batting heroes.
Sharing an image of their younger versions, Sachin penned, “My special wishes to one of my special batting heroes, Mr.Sunil Gavaskar. You’ve crossed 75 years, my prayers for a long and healthy life.”

“The more batters spend time at the crease, the more free-flowing they become. You are no different. You are becoming younger and more energetic by the day! To see you being as involved and as enthusiastic today about cricket, reflects how much you love the game,” he added.

Sachin highlighted Gavaskar’s ability to lay a strong foundation as an opener, which made it easier for the rest of the batting order to flourish. Crediting Gavaskar for inspiring his generation of cricketers, who in turn inspired the next generation, Sachin wrote, “When an opener sets a good foundation, it becomes easy for rest of the batting order. We all were inspired by you, and in turn were able to inspire the next generation. Indian cricket owes a lot for your services, may you continue being involved with our beautiful game. Happy birthday and I’ll see you soon!”
Gavaskar’s cricketing achievements are remarkable, particularly his debut series against the West Indies in 1971, where he scored 774 runs and led India to a historic series victory. This feat is often regarded as one of the greatest accomplishments in cricket history.
Gavaskar also showcased his ability to dominate bowlers when required, as evidenced by his six off Malcolm Marshall to equal Sir Donald Bradman’s then-world record of 29 Test hundreds. Also, his sole ODI century, a quick-fire 103 runs off just 88 balls against New Zealand during the 1987 World Cup, further proved his mettle as one of the greats of the game.
