144 electric vehicles to be hired for health centre staff in Bengaluru, ET HealthWorld

Bengaluru: As part of the INR 413-crore Brand Bengaluru health budget action plan, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recently approved the procurement of 144 electric scooters for urban primary healthcare centres (UPHCs) and 28 ambulances.

Each of the 144 UPHCs under BBMP will get one e-scooter. The vehicles can be used by UPHC employees or other healthcare service staff to carry vaccines, drugs, lab consumables, sample collections for lab testing, and also for fieldwork in their jurisdictions.

The Palike allotted nearly INR 2.2 crore to procure the EVs and INR 7 crore for 28 ambulances to attend to the needy during emergencies and take them to hospital. Nurses from UPHCs will use the EVs to carry vaccines and administer them to needy children, especially of construction workers who don’t tend to visit the hospital for vaccination. The EVs can also be used to collect samples from patients suffering from dengue and other viral infections.
