Gulf-based businessman’s death in Kerala linked to black magic gang, superstition

Srinagar, Dec 06: In a chilling case that combines superstition, murder, and greed, a Gulf-based businessman, Abdul Gafoor, was allegedly killed by a black magic gang in Kasargod district of Kerala.

The gang, led by 38-year-old Shameena K H, known as ‘Jinnumma,’ had been performing rituals at Gafoor’s house for months under the guise of treating his wife’s back pain and depression.

On the night of April 13, 2023, while Gafoor’s family was away, Shameena and her associates performed a ritual at his home, claiming it was necessary to exorcise the jinn which was causing his wife’s suffering, reported The Indian Express.

They covered Gafoor’s head with a cloth and struck it against the wall multiple times, causing his death, said the report.

When the family returned home the next day, they found Gafoor dead. Since there were no visible injuries, they buried him without suspicion.

After the mourning period ended, when people started approaching the family over ‘missing gold’, Gafoor’s son, Ahammed Mussamil filed a police complaint.

As per the report, Gafoor had been lending large amounts of gold to Shameena who had promised to “double” it. Also, police, as per the report, have discovered that the gang had taken over 596 sovereigns of gold from Gafoor, much of which was borrowed from others.

Investigations into the case revealed that the murder was premeditated, as the gang had planned to kill Gafoor as he was asking them to return his gold.

Shameena, her husband Ubaid, and two other accomplices, Asfina and Ayisha, have been arrested on charges of murder, robbery, and destruction of evidence.
