Irfan Ansari Unveils Comprehensive Health Sector Overhaul Plan in Jharkhand, ET HealthWorld
Ranchi: Congress lawmaker Irfan Ansari on Monday formally assumed charge as the state’s health minister hours after taking oath as an MLA of Jamtara on the first day of the sixth assembly session. Ansari is allotted the department of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs and disaster management in addition to health.
Ansari, an MBBS, said that his focus would be to transform healthcare sector to make it accessible and affordable for people of all sections of the society. “Upgrading govt hospitals and primary health centres to provide advanced healthcare at grassroots levels will be one of the key priorities of my department now,” he told reporters, adding that soon critical gaps in workforce will be addressed by rolling out large-scale recruitment drives for doctors, nurses, and paramedics.
He also stressed that diagnostic services too required focussed approach for which his department will allocate dedicated budgets to augment facilities at block levels to reduce the burden on rural patients.
“At the district level, health department in the next five years will work towards establishing state-of-the-art super multi-specialty hospitals. It will lessen dependency on other states for advanced medical care. Also, setting up trauma centres along highways and improving ambulance services will help in reaching timely medical aid to needy,” he said.
He also promised a modern hospital for his constituency. “Jamtara needs a modern hospital with a blood bank, and speciality clinics, for which I will work on a war-footing,” he added.
He also conceded about the need for a strict regulation to prevent private hospitals from over-charging patients, withholding deceased patients’ bodies due to unpaid bills among others. “I will soon hold a meeting with all private medical establishments in this regard,” he said.
