New Delhi: Amid a surge in Omicron cases, the Delhi government has introduced stricter restrictions on movement as part of its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. On Monday, December 27, the national capital reported 331 new COVID-19 cases in a single day. With the positivity rate exceeding 0.5% for over two consecutive days, Delhi has enforced a ‘yellow alert’ under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), signaling heightened precautionary measures across the city.
Since Delhi’s COVID-19 positivity rate remained above 0.5% for more than two days, the state government has imposed additional restrictions on movement of people. Delhi has reportedly recorded 331 new covid-19 cases on a single day on Monday, December 27.
Following this, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has imposed a level-I (Yellow alert) under graded response action plan (GRAP) in the national capital. Theoretically, yellow alert kicks in when the positivity rate of the virus crosses 0.5% for two consecutive days.
The GRAP are based on the positivity rate, new Covid cases as well as the availability of oxygen beds. There are four levels to this, namely yellow, amber, orange and red.
Currently, the state is following a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am since Monday, December 27.
Usual restrictions under yellow alert
- Schools and colleges will be closed
- Shop of non-essential items will open on alternate days
- Seating capacity trimmed by half in metro trains and public transport buses among others
- Cinema halls and gyms to stay close
- Malls to stay open from 10am to 8pm on an odd-even basis
However, the Delhi CM has informed that a detailed order on restrictions to be implemented will be released soon.Kejriwal reportedly said that Delhi is 10 times more prepared than earlier to deal with the rising cases of Covid-19. However, the new cases of the Omicron Covid variant are mild and do not usually require use of ventilators or oxygen cylinders, he said.
