Amid Parliament’s winter session, JKPCC chief demands statehood from Centre
Srinagar, Nov 25: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra Monday demanded the central government to honour its promise by giving J-K its statehood back.
“Even before, during, and after the elections, we strongly demanded that our rights and guarantees, which were snatched away in 2019, must be restored. Statehood and constitutional guarantees were promised to us, but those promises have only become empty words,” Karra said.
He said, the central government’s promises were only rhetoric.
Gathered along with his party members, Karra said they had gathered in Srinagar to remind those in Delhi about the promises they made on the floor of the parliament. “Today, the winter session of parliament commences, and I want to remind PM Modi and HM Amit Shah of their promises,” he said.
Karra said, the country’s apex court had also directed the Centre to restore the J-K’s statehood, and New Delhi should respect the SC’s decision.
