Ayurveda Hospital’s Kshar Sutra Treatment Cures Anorectal Diseases, ET HealthWorld

Mandya: The District Ayurveda Hospital at Hosahalli in Mandya reported significant success with its free Kshar Sutra treatment for patients suffering from conditions like piles, fissures, and anal fistulas. Over the past three months, more than 70 patients benefited from this unique treatment, which is offered free of cost.

The hospital conducts a monthly camp every third Thursday, where patients receive free treatment for these conditions. Dr BS Seethalakshmi, district Ayush officer, said that the initiative was launched following a directive from the state govt. The camp focuses on providing a safe and less invasive alternative to conventional modern treatments for anorectal diseases.

Dr Seethalakshmi said the Kshar Sutra treatment is highly effective, with most patients experiencing relief within 15 days, provided they adhere to the prescribed treatment and follow a strict diet. “Once the treatment is completed, there is no recurrence,” she emphasised. She also noted that the number of patients attending the camp has been steadily increasing, with the initial turnout of eight patients in the first month growing to over 30 patients by the third month.

Dr Mohan Kumar VR, ayurveda specialist at the District Ayurveda Hospital, highlighted that the treatment begins with a thorough diagnosis, often involving a few tests. “Once the exact problem is identified, we tailor the treatment. Within 15 days, patients are typically relieved of their pain and return to normal activities. They may stay in the hospital for one or two days, but the rest of the treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, with a few dietary restrictions,” he said.

He said that patients who diligently follow the prescribed treatment and diet have little to no chance of their health issues recurring. “Many patients who suffered from these conditions for years have now returned to their normal lives, pain-free,” Dr Mohan added. The next free treatment camp is scheduled for Nov 21.

S Vikas, a patient who was struggling with piles for two years, said: “I was in constant pain and was seeking treatment for a long time. I accompanied my sister to the hospital for her ayurvedic treatment and learned about the treatment method.” After consulting Dr Mohan and gaining confidence in the treatment, Vikas underwent the Kshar Sutra therapy. “Within 15 days, I was completely fine, and now I can eat normal food again,” he added.
