Jammu, Jan 10: In a significant operation, the police team of Police Post (PP) Nehru Market successfully foiled a bovine smuggling attempt and rescued 25 bovine animals at Bikram Chowk on Thursday.

The operation, led by In-Charge PP Nehru Market, Ajesh Jamwal, took place during a routine naka checking duty. The police intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK-13E-4142 and discovered 25 bovine animals crammed inside in an inhumane manner without food or water. The transportation was being carried out without any valid permission.

While the driver of the vehicle managed to flee under the cover of darkness, one person, identified as Mohd Ladi, son of Abdul Rashid and resident of Sikanderpur, Bishnah, was apprehended on the spot.

A case has been registered under Section 299/223 BNS 11 PCA Act at Police Station Gandhinagar, and further investigation into the case is underway. The rescued animals have been handed over to concerned authorities for proper care.

The police reiterated their commitment to preventing such illegal activities and assured stringent action against those involved in the illegal transportation of bovines.
