Centre convenes all party meeting ahead of Budget session, key issues raised | India News


NEW DELHI: The government on Sunday convened an all party meeting, chaired by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, in preparation for the upcoming Budget session of Parliament. Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju organised the meeting with floor leaders from various political parties to discuss the issues they plan to address during the session.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted that during the meeting, JD(U) leaders demanded special category status for Bihar, while YSRCP sought the same for Andhra Pradesh.Notably, the TDP leader remained silent on the issue.
“In today’s all-party meeting of floor leaders chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the JD(U) leader demanded special category status of Bihar. The YSRCP leader demanded special category status for Andhra Pradesh. Strangely, the TDP leader kept quiet on the matter,” tweeted Jairam Ramesh.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, recently appointed deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, raised concerns regarding NEET, the alleged misuse of central agencies such as the ED and CBI, and reiterated the demand for the deputy Speaker post.
RJD MP A D Singh stated that opposition members informed the government during the all-party meeting that they must be allowed to raise their issues in Parliament.
Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav highlighted the recent UP government’s directive of nameplates on food shops along the Kanwar route in Uttar Pradesh.
The Monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin on Monday, July 22, and will include 19 sittings through August 12. During this period, the government is expected to present six bills, including a proposal to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act. The Centre will also seek Parliament’s approval for the Budget for Jammu and Kashmir, which is currently under Union rule.
This meeting is particularly significant as it marked the first session attended by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi following his return from violence-hit Manipur. It was also the first all-party meeting attended by Gandhi in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition.
The customary meeting saw the attendance of several key political figures, including Congress members Jairam Ramesh and K S Suresh, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, RJD’s Abhay Kushwaha, JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, SP’s Ramgopal Yadav, and NCP’s Praful Patel.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget on Tuesday, with the Economic Survey set to be tabled in Parliament on Monday.
