Coaching centre CEO, aide held day after student deaths | India News

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday arrested Abhishek Gupta, CEO of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in central Delhi’s Rajender Nagar, and the centre’s coordinator, Deshpal Singh, a day after three students drowned in the institute’s flooded basement. The police have invoked charges of culpable homicide besides causing death due to negligence against the accused.
The FIR filed by police says there was no drainage system in the basement.Documents have surfaced revealing that the centre’s management had sought NOCs from fire and civic agencies for a storage facility in the basement and no clearance for a library was taken.
Police will now record the statements of around 15 students who were rescued from the basement to establish the sequence of events. Prima facie, the initial assessment that the basement was flooded as the main gate collapsed appears true, cops said. A wave of water entered the building as an SUV went past the flooded road in front at speed. A video corroborates this.
