Director Ridley Scott says Paul Mescal will star in Sony’s Beatles movies
Looks like veteran director Ridley Scott has spilt some beans about his Gladiator 2 actor Paul Mescal’s upcoming films.
Recently, on the occasion of the film’s screening at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on Tuesday, while attending a talk with director Christopher Nolan, Scott said that he next plans on helming the thriller The Dog Stars.
When Nolan asked Scott if it would also star Mescal, Scott confirmed this as true before correcting himself and explaining that Mescal’s schedule may prevent them from collaborating once again soon. The veteran filmmaker stated that Mescal might get busy with Sony Pictures‘ Beatles movies for director Sam Mendes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott said, “Maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”
Despite no official announcement has been made by the studio, it’s widely rumoured that Mescal has been roped in to play Paul McCartney in the upcoming four biopics that Mendes is set to direct. The films will be released theatrically and each of them is said to focus on each of the four members of the Beatles, McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
This comes after Mescal, in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, stated, “It would be an incredible story to be attached to. The fact that Sam Mendes is attached to direct, like truly, it would be a dream come true.” When he was asked if he would star in it, Mescal said, “No, no, no — we’re not going there.”
Beatles drummer Starr recently told Entertainment Tonight that Barry Keoghan will be playing him in the films. More details on the cast and crew are expected soon.
