The government media office in Gaza has confirmed that Israeli air strikes in Gaza killed five journalists on Sunday. The five journalists have been identified as Saed Radwan with Al-Aqsa TV, Hamza Abu Salmiya with Sanad News Agency, Haneen Baroud with Al-Quds Foundation, Abdulrahman Al-Tanani with Sawt Al-Shaab, and Nadia Al-Sayed who worked with multiple news outlets.
“We strongly condemn the unprecedented and ongoing crimes of the occupation against Palestinian journalists, as it was announced that 5 of them were martyred today, and we confirm that [Israel] will not intimidate them or prevent them from continuing their role in exposing the fascist entity,” the statement read.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the recent Israeli massacre of several journalists in the line of duty at the Asma School in the al-Shati (Beach) refugee camp west of Gaza City. It condemned the occupation’s deliberate targeting of the three journalists while striving to convey the truth.
It asserted its commitment to pursuing legal action against those responsible for these brutal crimes against journalists, stressing that it will not falter to utilize all available legal measures to hold accountable war criminals who intentionally target the voice of truth.
The Syndicate urged the international community and relevant organizations to take a decisive and effective stance against the heinous crimes targeting Palestinian journalists, who work in the most difficult circumstances and risk their lives to convey the suffering of their people to the world.
“The systematic crimes against journalists in the Gaza Strip require the international community and its institutions to take serious steps to stop them and hold accountable this fascist government that has made the Palestinian journalist a target for killing and revenge,” the media office added.
According to the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, 131 journalists have been killed in Gaza, the number is over 170 according to the Gaza media office. Over 70 journalists have been detained by the occupational forces.
Last week, Israel accused six Al Jazeera journalists of being members of Palestinian armed groups. The Doha-based media network rejected Israel’s allegation.
