‘Hope for early return to normalcy’: PM Modi after Muhammad Yunus takes oath as head of Bangladesh interim government | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Mohammed Yunus, who earlier in the day took oath as the chief advisor to Bangladesh interim government.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Modi said, “My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities.”

PM Modi also expressed his concern regarding the safety of minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh.”We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities. India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development,” he added.
Mohammed Yunus, 84, took oath as head of the interim government at Bangabhaban, official residence of Bangladesh president, as Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 after weeks-long student led protests forced her out of power.

“I will uphold, support and protect the constitution,” Yunus said during the ceremony.
