HPSL Indian 2000 Guineas on Dec. 22

The second Classic of the Mumbai racing season, the Indian 2000 Guineas sponsored by the Horse Power Sports League (HPSL), is scheduled to be run at the Mahalaxmi racecourse this Sunday (Dec. 22).

The Group 1 race, open to three-year-old colts, fillies, and geldings and covering a distance of one mile (1600m), is the first leg of the coveted ‘Indian Triple Crown’ (along with Indian Derby and the Indian St. Leger). Six participants will compete for a total prize pool of ₹5 million with the winner taking home ₹3 million.

Santissimo, a star colt from the yard of trainer Pesi Shroff who will be partnered by Irish jockey Oisin Murphy, has impressed with his recent victory and track performances and should fight for honours.

African Gold, an unbeaten classic colt trained by Bengaluru-based Parvati Byramji, who has traveled seamlessly to Mumbai and is delivering impressive performances in the morning trials, is capable of extending his winning streak.

Another contender from Shroff’s yard, the champion filly Psychic Star, fresh off a resounding victory in the Indian 1000 Guineas last Sunday, could deliver a back-to-back Classic win.
