India vs United Arab Emirates, Women’s Asia Cup T20 preview: Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India will look to make it two wins out of two matches when they take on United Arab Emirates in a Group A match of the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament in Dambulla on Sunday.

The Women in Blue began their title defence with a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in their tournament opener. India were asked by Pakistan to field first in that contest and took that opportunity with both hands as they restricted Pakistan to 108 in 19.2 overs. Deepti Sharma (3/20) was the pick of the bowlers whereas Renuka Singh, Radha Yadav and Shreyanka Patil took two wickets each.

In India’s reply, openers Shafali Verma (40) and Smriti Mandhana (45) forged 85 runs for the first wicket to setup the platform for victory.

A win for India on Sunday will put them closer towards a semi-final spot. India have, however, sustained a blow ahead of the UAE game, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil being ruled out of the tournament with a finger injury. The 21 year-old has been replaced by Tanuja Kanwar, an uncapped spinner.

UAE, on the other hand, are coming on the back of a six-wicket loss to Nepal in their first match and must win on Sunday to have any hopes of progressing further.

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Uma Chetry (wk), Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh, D Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Tanuja Kanwar, Sajeevan Sajana.
