MiG-29 crashes in Agra, pilot ejects safely

LUCKNOW: A MiG-29 jet which departed from Adampur air base in Jalandhar district of Punjab, crashed in agricultural fields of Agra district on Monday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 pm when the single-seater fighter aircraft piloted by Wing Commander Manish Mishra on routine training sortie experienced a technical malfunction.
“The pilot, exhibiting his presence of mind and exceptional proficiency, manoeuvred the aircraft away from densely populated areas and the jet crashed in Sonika village of Kagraul police jurisdiction,” said an official source.
There were no casualties or property damage on the ground, and the pilot ejected safely.
The Indian Air Force has initiated an enquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Wing Commander Manish Mishra, belongs to the 182 course and was commissioned in the service in December 2008.
“The pilot has been transported to the military hospital in Agra Cantonment. His condition is reported to be stable,” said ACP Sainya Devesh Singh whilst speaking to TOI.
Police have secured the area surrounding the crashed jet.
