Israel kills Lebanon mayor in air attack on southern municipal offices : Valley Vision

An Israeli air attack on Nabatieh, in southern Lebanon, has hit a local government building, killing at least five people, including the town’s mayor.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said that mayor Ahmad Kaheil is one among the martyrs of the Israeli air attack which hit the municipality building.

“The mayor of Nabatieh, among others… was martyred. It’s a massacre,” Nabatieh governor Howaida Turk told AFP. 

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Israel deliberately targeted a meeting of the municipal council that was discussing the city’s services and relief situation.

Following the deadly attack, the Israeli army released a statement saying it targeted a number of Hezbollah targets in the Nabatieh area. However, no evidence was provided to support the claim, which has been made in other attacks that have killed large numbers of civilians.

According to local officials, Israeli warplanes launched more than eight air strikes also on several surrounding towns, killing dozens and destroying property.

Rescue teams are still working to remove the rubble from the targeted area.
