Janhvi Kapoor defends ‘Pushpa 2’ against ‘Interstellar’: Why are we so obsessed with idolising the west?
Actor Janhvi Kapoor has defended Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule after the film was pitted against Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar on social media.
Nolan’s sci-fi adventure from 2014 got an IMAX re-release recently but is not being shown in India due to Pushpa 2 occupying all IMAX screens, reports stated. This led to disappointment among Nolan fans in India, opening up a debate on the taste of the cinemagoing public in the country.
Commenting on an Instagram post about the same, Janhvi Kapoor, who made her Telugu cinema debut in Devara, wrote, “Pushpa 2 is also cinema. Why are we so obsessed with idolising the west and running down things that come out of our own country and instantly disqualifying it from being considered as worthy? The same rooted representation and larger than life tone other countries appreciate and our fascinated by our cinema for, we ourselves are embarrassed of. Sad.”
Pushpa 2 shattered box office records securing the largest opening for an Indian film ever. The sequel, directed by Sukumar, continues the story of Pushpa Raj, a fearsome sandalwood smuggler played by Arjun. Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil are also featured in the cast.
