‘Kerala halves healthcare costs in a decade’, ET HealthWorld
T’puram: Health minister Veena George said that according to the National Statistics Survey, treatment costs in Kerala have come down by half in the last 10 years.
The state achieved the milestone because it provides the highest number of free treatments in the country, she said. Before the state health agency was established in 2020, only Rs 30,000 was allocated for free treatment. When this govt took over in 2021, there were 2.5 lakh claims for free treatment which have now increased to 6.75 lakh.
As the govt spends more than Rs 1,600 crore annually solely on free treatment, each family member can avail of treatment benefits from Rs 30,000 to Rs 5 lakh. This achievement is a result of Kerala’s strong stance and actions in providing free treatment, the minister said. She was speaking at the inauguration of various projects at the district model hospital in the state capital on Wednesday.
