Miraculous surgery saves newborn with rare brain disorder, ET HealthWorld

Prayagraj: In a remarkable feat, doctors at Narayan Swaroop Hospital in Mundera successfully operated on a newborn with a rare birth defect, giving him a second lease of life.

The child, born on Nov 9, was diagnosed with a condition called encephalocele, where brain tissue grows through a hole in the skull. After being refused treatment at multiple hospitals, the family finally found hope at Narayan Swaroop Hospital.

A team of doctors, led by laparoscopic surgeon Dr Rajiv Singh, performed a complex four-and-a-half-hour surgery on the 21-day-old child. After a 10-day ICU stay, the child made a full recovery.

Doctors say the child will require follow-up care for five years to monitor any potential brain effects. The family is overjoyed, and the hospital’s medical team is being hailed as heroes for their life-saving efforts. tnn
