SRINAGAR: In a key move following his swearing-in as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today, Omar Abdullah, leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), appointed Nasir Aslam Wani as his Advisor. The official order, issued late in the evening by the General Administration Department (GAD), confirms Wani’s new role as Advisor to the Chief Minister, with the terms and conditions to be specified separately.

Nasir Aslam Wani, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) who represented the Lal Chowk constituency, contested the 2024 elections from Kupwara but lost to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Fayaz Mir. Despite the electoral setback, Wani continues to hold significant influence within the party and remains a close confidant of Omar Abdullah. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the new administration.

The appointment order, issued under Government Order No. 1783-JK(GAD) of 2024, was signed by Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, and widely circulated to key government officials and departments, with Hindi and Urdu versions of the order to follow soon.

Wani’s elevation to the advisory role comes at a crucial time for the Omar Abdullah-led administration, as it sets out to tackle the political and administrative challenges in the region. Wani’s experience and close ties with the Chief Minister are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policy decisions and governance in the coming months.
