Omar is scheduled to take oath Wednesday forenoon at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the Dal Lake.

The other leaders likely to attend are the DMK’s Kanimozhi, the NCP’s Supriya Sule, the CPI(M)’s Prakash Karat, the CPI’s D Raja and SAD’s Harsimrat Kaur.

Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar are also expected.

This morning Omar Abdullah told news agency ANI, “We have a lot to do. We have to give people hope… that this is their government, and they will be heard. They were not heard for the past five-six years…”

The Chief Minister-designate today paid tributes at the mausoleum of National Conference founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah ahead of his swearing in ceremony.

Speaking after his election win Abdullah had underlined a key expectation of his government – the restoration of J&K’s statehood that was revoked after Article 370 was arbitrarily scrapped in August 2019.
