Ooty GMCH gets new ambulance, echo machine, Health News, ET HealthWorld

Udhagamandalam: The Ooty Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Friday received an ambulance and a high-end echocardiogram machine worth Rs50 lakh.

While the ambulance was donated by Inner Wheel Club of Ootacamund, the echocardiogram machine was donated by NRI Rishi Bhatnagar, who owns a business abroad.

Pointing out that the newly built govt medical college and hospital was located at least five kilometres away from the govt maternity hospital, Thelma Netaji, president, Inner Wheel Club of Ootacamund, said, “It all started with a humble request from GMCH dean Dr Geethanjali. An ambulance is needed to shift the newborn babies with complicated issues to the govt medical college and hospital from the maternity hospital.”

Sunita Balasubramaniam, incoming president of Inner Wheel Club of Ootacamund, said the ambulance would be a lifeline for many, providing safe and reliable transportation to medical facilities, particularly for women and children.

Dr Geethanjali said, “As the maternity unit will continue to function out of the Sait Memorial building, we need an ambulance to transport pregnant women or newborns, if any emergency arises.”
