Schools in Bengaluru, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu closed amid heavy rains: Check details here : Valley Vision

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc across parts of southern India, leading to widespread disruption. In response to weather alerts, several state governments, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, have ordered the closure of educational institutions to ensure the safety of students and staff. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings, prompting swift action across these regions.
Bengaluru witnessed heavy rains today, October 15, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in several areas.The weather department has issued an orange alert, prompting the closure of schools tomorrow, October 16, 2024. The order was issued by Bengaluru Urban district collector Jagadeesha.
The decision to close the schools was made with the safety of students, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, in mind. It is important to note that there is a government holiday on Thursday, October 17, in observance of Valmiki Jayanti.
Additionally, PU colleges will be on leave until October 18, 2024. However, rain-related holidays have not been declared for degree, PG, diploma, and engineering colleges.

Similarly, the Puducherry government has decided that all schools and colleges in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain closed on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, due to a forecast of heavy rains by the weather department. Home Minister A. Namassivayam announced that privately managed institutions and government-aided schools will also remain shut, as reported by PTI. Schools and colleges in the two regions were already closed on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan reviewed the government’s preparedness and response to the ongoing rain in the Union Territory. Officials from the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management briefed him on the measures taken to ensure that relief and rehabilitation efforts are in place in Puducherry and Karaikal, as reported by PTI.
In Tamil Nadu, the government has also declared a holiday for tomorrow, as per media reports. All schools and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu districts will remain closed tomorrow due to heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for October 16, 2024. Schools in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram were already closed today due to the severe weather conditions.
