Shopian coldest as freezing temperatures continue across Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 22: As temperature across Kashmir valley continued a downward curve, Shopian recorded the minimum temperature at minus 8.1 degrees Celsius, said the weatherman.

This was followed by district Anantnag which recorded minus 6.6°C, followed by Kulgam district which recorded -5.8°C.

Srinagar and Gulmarg both recorded -4.6°C, while Sonamarg dropped to -7.0°C.

Jammu city recorded 6.5°C, while Ramban was the warmest at 8.1°C. In Ladakh, Kargil recorded -8.8°C, while Leh stood at -7.4°C.

According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Director of the Meteorological Department, harsher weather is expected in the coming days, as temperatures are likely to drop further after 23rd December, signalling an intensified cold wave coinciding with the onset of Chilai Kalan.
