Shy & soft spoken but also fiercely honourable

Ratan Tata’s courteousness sat easily with his positive obstinacy in sticking to principles, writes Abhishek Singhvi, who has been Tatas’ counsel for many years, including in the Tata vs Mistry case

If there is one abiding regret I have, it is that I did not get to know Ratan Tata intimately prior to 10 years ago, though I had known him for much longer in a formal sense. People have talked and written about his many qualities of head and heart: his ethics, integrity, honour, vision, intellect, passion, zeal, determination, tenacity, compassion, humility and so on.

But I want to discuss some of the facets of the man as I found him, in my close interactions with him in the last phase of his life.
