New Delhi: Singapore is grappling with a rising diabetes burden, driven by an aging population, lifestyle changes, and increasing rates of obesity. Conventional management methods like glucose meters and insulin therapy often fail to provide timely treatment adjustments and real-time monitoring, limiting their effectiveness in controlling the disease.
To address these gaps, SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), has launched OPTIMUM (Optimising care of Patients via Telemedicine in Monitoring and Augmenting their control of Diabetes Mellitus). This innovative tele-monitoring platform aims to enhance diabetes management by overcoming the limitations of traditional approaches.
Kanchan Chauhan, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, notes: “Conventional diabetes management lacks real-time monitoring and personalized education, leaving patients struggling with effective self-management.”
The OPTIMUM platform integrates bluetooth-enabled devices, including glucometers, weighing scales, and blood pressure monitors, to track key health metrics such as glucose and blood pressure levels. It also offers educational content, tele-consultations, and real-time feedback, actively engaging patients in managing their own health.
