Three Smugglers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act, Fraudster Detained Under PSA
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Anantnag arrested three drug smugglers under the PIT NDPS Act and detained a habitual fraudster under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
“The smugglers, identified as Zubair Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Gund Bagh Seer Hamdan, Bashir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Gopalpora Mattan, and Sartaj Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara, were linked to separate cases registered at police stations in Mattan and Bijbehara,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
In a related development, Bilal Ahmad Lone, alias Dr Bilal, a resident of Maratgam Handwara, was detained under the PSA for his involvement in multiple fraudulent activities that have caused public distress.
In Srinagar, police arrested two individuals during a patrol in Bemina after discovering 7.10 grams of a brown sugar-like substance in a vehicle parked under suspicious circumstances. “The suspects, identified as Syed Athar Rafi and Waseem Ahmed Rather, were taken into custody, and a case under the NDPS Act was registered at the Bemina police station.”
In Kulgam, police apprehended Raj Kumar, a resident of Batote Ramban, at a checkpoint in Khudwani after recovering 4 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in a bag. “He was arrested on the spot, and a case was registered at Qaimoh police station.”
In Baramulla, a drug peddler, identified as Syed Akhter Shah, a resident of Diwer Pattan, was arrested at a checkpoint in Parihaspora-Diwer Crossing Pattan with 5.95 grams of a heroin-like substance in his possession.
Police have urged the public to assist in efforts to curb drug-related crimes by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or by contacting the helpline number 112. They have reaffirmed their commitment to building a drug-free society and taking strict legal action against offenders.
