Truck rolls into gorge near Margan Top, conductor killed, driver injured
Srinagar, Dec 12: A truck carrying bricks from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district to Warwan plunged into a deep gorge near Margan Top last night, officials said.
The conductor of the truck was killed on the spot, while the driver sustained injuries and was rescued by locals and police.
The ill-fated truck, bearing registration number JK03E/2017, was transporting bricks intended for victims of a recent fire in Muliwarwan. The accident took place along the Kokernag-Margan-Warwan road, which remains treacherous in winter due to heavy snowfall and icy conditions.
Both the deceased conductor and the injured driver hailed from Gawran village in Kokernag, the last settlement on the Anantnag side of the route.
The conductor, identified as Bilal Ahmad Khatana (35), son of Irshad Ahmad from Guridraman, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver, Mumtaz Ahmad Tidwah (37), son of Mohammad Ismail from Bunmathindo, Tehsil Larnoo, sustained injuries and was promptly evacuated for medical treatment.
